There’s one server setup mistake you can make that will screw you up for years to come. It’ll haunt your business, your developers and your server admins, and be hugely expensive to fix. It’s surprisingly easy to make. The mistake? Setting the timezone to anything other than UTC.
Most applications we build tend to have date and time data associated with it. If the application is not used just in a single location you are likely have to deal with times zones in your application. While .NET has a good set of date manipulation function, the various time zone conversion routines are a bit of a pain to use.
The common refrain in the industry is Just use UTC! Just use UTC! And that's correct... sort of. But if you're stuck building software that deals with time, there's so much more to consider. It's time... to talk about time.
